Duncan Livingston's first marriage

So my husband has an ancestor named Duncan Livingston.  And he is really hard to pin down because the dates of his birth and immigration from Scotland keep changing with every census.  I did have his marriage to Ida May Cook (who is another problem, at least for her birth record) proven with a record but beyond that and the census, not much.  From the census (and family information) I knew he had been married before Ida but the family really didn't seem to have much information.  I had been searching around for a while, looking for a marriage record without any luck.  Then I happened upon a death record for Kate Livingston who died in 1898.  The name of the reporter was given as D. Livingston.  Not much to go on really but it did seem like a good fit.  So I kept looking for the marriage record without much luck.  But there were two useful things on this death record.  One was that Kate Livingston had 1 child and Kate had been born in Canada.

I followed the child lead and actually located a marriage record for Ella Livingston in 1903.  Her birth fit with the possible marriage date for Duncan's 1st marriage and Ella's parents were given as Duncan Livingston and Kate Mc Intire.  (Yep, the death record did give Kate's father Michol Mc Intyre.)  But the really exciting information was the witness named Ida M Livingston!  Oh yeah, this was a really good fit!  But Ella had a daughter too and at her marriage, Ida M Livingston again was listed as a witness!  So know I had the names of three women that had been lost!

It does make you wonder how this information was forgotten until I found the death records for both Ella and her daughter Kathleen.  Kathleen died in 1929 from Ilaus with contributory induced abortion.  And Ella died in 1930 from a strangulated hernia after a surgery.  Duncan didn't die until 1945 so he had already lost his entire 1st family.

But I still had to find his marriage record to Kate Mc Intyre.  And that is when the born in Canada helped out.  Because what if they didn't get married in Michigan, where Duncan lived but in Canada where Kate was born?  So Family Search helped out again with marriage records from Canada.  Of course these records where divided by province and I didn't have a clue where to start.  So I picked the closes province to Michigan, Ontario.  And the very first record that showed up was the marriage record of Duncan and Kate in 1882.  Case closed!

Tombstone Tuesday: Great-Great-Grandparents #3

Hugh and Margaret (Cameron) Livingston are the Scottish portion of the family and need more research.  They were married December 14, 1855 in Glasgow, Scotland.  They had at least one son, Duncan born in 1856.

Tombstone Tuesday: Great-Grandparents #2

Duncan and Ida Livingston are buried in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Boyne City.  Duncan was born in 1857 in Scotland and Ida May Cook was born in 1884 in Petoskey.  They were married in 1901 in Charlevoix, Michigan.  They had 9 children together.  Duncan died in 1945 in Boyne City.  Ida remarried in 1948 to James Johnston.  Ida died in 1970 in Petoskey, Michigan.

Tombstone Tuesday: Paternal Grandparents

Margaret L. and Raymond N. Green are buried in the Maple Lawn Cemetery in Boyne City, Michigan.   Margaret (aka Leta) Livingston was born in 1922 in Boyne City.  Raymond was born in 1919, also in Boyne City.  They married in 1939 and had two sons, one still living.  Raymond was a veteran of WWII and had a shoe repair business.  Margaret remarried in 1972 to Leon E Brooks who died in 2002.

Mrs. Roxanna Kidder; 1895

Started scanning again.  This time I was going through a file folder of newspaper clippings and other stuff.  There were quite a few Livingston clippings and some other interesting things.  One of the great things was an 1895 funeral pamphlet for Mrs. Roxanna Kidder, Died Aug. 8, 1895.  This is actually one of my problem areas so it is great to have a specific death date!  This should be the grandmother of Jennie Kidder who married Clark Green in 1886.  I only wish there had been more information :)

I'm in the process of finishing up the Philmore and Margaret Leita photos.  I came across an interesting photo where I can pretty solidly identify three of the people.  They are all labeled on the back but I haven't done much research on this family.  So the woman on the arm of the chair is my husband's grandmother, Leita Green.  This picture was in her stuff so it was probably her camera.  The woman on the opposite side with the pearls is her sister Florence.  The older woman is their mother Ida Cook Livingston Johnston.  On her lap is the baby Susan and the other woman is probably the baby's mother.  She is called Gerry.  Which is a nickname, most likely.  My best guess is that Gerry is short for Geraldine which is the name of Florence's oldest daughter.  But I have no dates or marriage or any other information other than her name.  So that is why this is only a possible four generation picture!

Mayflower Connection

My own genealogy does not have any Mayflower connection but my husband has two of them.

Edward Doty was one of two indentured servants obligated to Stephen Hopkins and as such accompanied Hopkins and his family aboard the Mayflower.   While the Mayflower was anchored off Cape Cod, forty-one of the adult males, including the servants, signed the Mayflower Compact on November 11, 1620.

Constance was the second daughter of Stephen Hopkins, by his first wife, Mary. Constance, at the age of fourteen, along with her father and his second wife Elizabeth (Fisher), accompanied by brother Giles, half-sister Damaris as well as two servants by the name of Edward Doty and Edward Lester were passengers on the Mayflower in 1620.

Yep that is correct my husband's ancestor through his fathers line was the indentured servant of the ancestor through his mothers line!

A missing wedding picture

Many years ago, I created a wedding (or at least a picture of the couple around that time) genealogy picture album. The idea was that it would start with me and my husband and then go to our parents, our grandparents and out to our great-grandparents. (I don't have any pictures of the next level so I never even put those pages in the book.) As of yesterday, I was missing 3 pictures for the album, 2 from my husbands side and 1 from my own. Well, I was picking some stuff up yesterday and I found some pictures. Of course I have to scan them but I thought I would take a look before I put them on the scan pile. Well, I found a picture of my mother-in-law, who passed away a few years ago along with one of the missing pictures with a note from her! I actually had this picture for a number of years but totally forgot. WOW! I am very excited! The copy is not great but I fixed it up a bit and it is posted above. This is Duncan Livingston & Ida May Cook married in 1901.

My daughter loves this album as much as I do so I showed her the picture and she noticed something interesting. (Figures!) If you look closely at the broach Ida is wearing, it looks like a picture of her husband. I will have to see if my father in law has the original at his house since the orientation of the photo is wrong for the album and I would like to rescan it.

So the only pictures I need are Edwin Charles Vorce & Susie Augusta Stinchfield, married in 1895 AND Ben Stremler & Lucy De Vries married in 1908. Of course it might not be a wedding picture but I would like something for the album!
