Tombstone Tuesday: Great-Great-Great Grandparents #30

Jan and Trientje (Koenes) Meulenbelt were married September 24, 1862 in Aduard, Groningen.  Together they had five children.  Jan Meulenbelt was born November 21, 1839 in the Netherlands and died June 2, 1925 in Michigan at the age of 85.  Trientje Koenes Meulenbelt was born April 1840 in the Netherlands and died March 21, 1917 at the age of 76 in Michigan.  They are both buried in the Grandville cemetery in Grandville, Michigan.  There is no headstone.

Otto and Wilma (Meulenbelt) Brand were married December 31, 1890 in Bedum, Netherlands.  Otto was born November 9, 1860 in Zuilichem, Netherlands.  Willemke was born February 2, 1863 in Aduard, Netherlands.  Together they had four children.  Otto died July 3, 1947 in Holland, Michigan at the age of 86.  Wilma died 11 days later on July 14, also in Holland, Michigan at the age of 84.  They are buried in the Pilgrim Home Cemetery.

Willemke Meulenbelt Brand 1863-1947

Willemke Meulenbelt was born February 2, 1863 in Aduard, Groningen, Netherlands. She married Otto Brand Dec 31, 1890. They had two children, Gijsberdina & Jan, before they immigrated to America aboard the Dubbeldam, April 19, 1894. They had two additional kids, Otto & Catherine after arriving in Michigan.

The story I heard from my mother about Willemke is that she pressured her husband into coming to America. Her family had already come across and she really wanted to go also. Otto never really adjusted to life here and didn't even learn English. Interesting, they died 11 days apart. They are both buried in the Pilgrim Home Cemetery in Holland Michigan.
