Tombstone Tuesday: Great-Great-Grandparents #2

John and Bertha Nelson are in the section of my research where more work needs to be done!  John Nelson was born in 1862 in Sweden and died in Michigan probably after 1930.  Bertha Anderson was born August 17, 1863 in Norway and died November 5, 1894 in Michigan.  She is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery in Elk Rapids but there is not a picture of her stone.  John & Bertha were married March 2, 1888 in Traverse City, Michigan and they had three children together.  John married Henrietta Hansen January 25, 1900 and they had six children together.

Tombstone Tuesday: Great-Grandparents #1

Philmore and Edith Green are buried in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Boyne City, Michigan.  Philmore was born in 1893 in Stanton, Michigan.  Edith Nelson was born in 1891 in Elk Rapids, Michigan.  They married in 1914 in Boyne City, Michigan and had six children, one who is still living.  Philmore died in 1959 in Boyne City, Michigan and Edith died in 1958 in Petoskey, Michigan.

Found Treasure: John Nelson

Found another little treasure while scanning pictures: a picture of John Nelson!  John Nelson is  my husband's great-great grandfather.  John Nelson was born in June 1862 in Sweden to Nils Johnson & Olivill Mudgoen.  He married his first wife Bertha Anderson in 1888 in Traverse City, Michigan.  They had three children together Olive, Edith and Albert.  Bertha died in 1894 and John remarried in 1900 to Henrietta Hansen.  Together they had an additional 6 children Nels, Lester, Leslie, Leslie, Harold, and Leonard.  John died sometime after 1930.

Mayflower Connection

My own genealogy does not have any Mayflower connection but my husband has two of them.

Edward Doty was one of two indentured servants obligated to Stephen Hopkins and as such accompanied Hopkins and his family aboard the Mayflower.   While the Mayflower was anchored off Cape Cod, forty-one of the adult males, including the servants, signed the Mayflower Compact on November 11, 1620.

Constance was the second daughter of Stephen Hopkins, by his first wife, Mary. Constance, at the age of fourteen, along with her father and his second wife Elizabeth (Fisher), accompanied by brother Giles, half-sister Damaris as well as two servants by the name of Edward Doty and Edward Lester were passengers on the Mayflower in 1620.

Yep that is correct my husband's ancestor through his fathers line was the indentured servant of the ancestor through his mothers line!

Another common name

So not only does my husband have a very common last name, Green, which makes that ancestor hunt difficult, he has to throw in a John Nelson.  Serious?

We do know John Nelson was born in Sweden (big surprise) ABOUT 1863.  No death date.  He was married twice.  First to Bertha Anderson from Norway in 1888.  They had three (known) children.  Second marriage to Henrietta Hansen, another Norwegian, in 1900.  They might have had 6 children.

I did find John Nelson & Henrietta in the 1930 census so now I need the 1940 one to see if they were still alive then.  Just trying to narrow down the date.

Ahnentafel Roulette

Another Saturday night challenge from the Genea-Musings blog. First, I took my fathers current age (66) divided by 4 and round up to the nearest whole number (17). Now I have to write three things about the person who matches that ahnentafel number in my family tree.

Edith Nelson (my husband's Great-Grandmother)
Edith was born 23 Jan 1891 in Elk Rapids, Michigan, married 08 Oct 1914 to Philmore Hutchison Green, and died 29 May 1958 in Petoskey, Michigan.

1) Edith & Philmore had 6 children
2) Her parents were John Nelson & Bertha Anderson
3) Edith died of acute peritonites in the Little Traverse Hospital

Sorry those are so run of the mill but I really don't have a lot of information on Edith. I only have this one picture of Edith & Philmore but I am not sure when it was taken.
